I have 3 uncles that pass as white and will only remain in contact with the most light skinned relatives. It is really sad because their children have no cousins, aunts or uncles. We have a huge extended family. Recently my parents celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary and they did not attend; it was very hurtful to my father, their brother. They do occasionally arrive in the dead of night and leave early the following day for my grandfathers birthday. They appear to be terrified to be seen by their own brothers and sisters! Our surname tells all in regards to racial background so it is believed that they have also moved to another state to maintain their lie.

I used to believe that it was totally up to you to mingle with whomever you feel comfortable, but when you go out of your way to deny your background, it only perpetuates a slave mentality.
