Genealogy is much the same no matter what the ethnicity -- at least until you get back to the 1800's -- then many more problems arise peculiar to particular ethnicities. The most important thing is to begin with a known person and work carefully backwords. Typically census records are a pretty handy guide 1930, 1920, 1910, 1900, 1880 and see what they say about location, ethicity etc. Gather all documentation you can -- death, marriage. land records etc If you have specific info, name, approximate age and likely location there are many willing to help you with lookups and/or point you in the right location. So perhaps grandmother's parents were alive already in 1930 - and the search can begin there! Below is a good general guide with suggestions on how to get started.
