Re: Tracing Ancestry?
In Response To: Tracing Ancestry? ()
Dear Angela, please see my response to Mariah Payne (May 18) on May 25. She is researching a family background similar to yours. Speak with family members starting with your children's grandmother and other elders on that side of their family - who can provide names, places, occupations - any information or leads from which you can begin. I would then try the African-Native Genealogy Webpage (at Afrigeneas "Links") There is also a good listing of links sponsored by the Black Native American Association at: http://www.bnaa.org/Links/links.shtml An Internet search might also yield information on African Americans with Native American ancestry as a group or specific to certain states. Also conduct a surname search at the LDS Church Family History site (also at "Links") You may also wish to post your query to the African-Native American Forum at Afrigeneas. Good Luck!
