Thank you very much for your response and to everyone else who posted to this board. I must add that even though my grandfather acknowledged my mother, he forgot to put it in writing in his Will that she was his child or give my mother his last name. Before my grandfather died he promise my mother and other family members present that he would put her in his Will. All his family members knew that my mother was his child, but when my mother contested the will, she was given nothing. There was a great amount of land and property that he left. The sad thing was that my grandfather had only one child (my mother) and my grandfather's mother my (great- grandmother) raised her.
