"Moving Here" From the Caribbean to the Uk

Greetings Afrigeneas World Researchers:

More than 30 museums throughout the UK contributed to the Public Records Office's National Archives exhibition of " Moving Here: 200 Years of Migration to England."

Although the exhibition chronicles the experience of Irish, Jewish and South Asian immigrants, I've enclosed the url for that presents Caribbean history in the UK. "Moving Here" is a treasure trove of information. Many stories presented in first person narratives which begin in the Caribbean and continue through the Journey, Growing Up in the UK to present day. You will find a searchable database, an on line census and some rather hefty PDF files that will enhance your understanding of the Caribbean experience in the UK.

I must confess that I was surprised to see the photograph and read the story of black children being sent to the safety of the countryside during WW II. America's History Channel and PBS have broadcast shows on similar children, all white during the bombing of London. It reinforced my belief in how similar and how different the African Diaspora experience can be.

You may find genealogical links to Caribbean ancestors, or like me discover the rich multi-dimensional history and spirit of our African cousins in the UK.

Click back to the other ethnic migrant stories as well. You'll enjoy them too.

Enjoy and share this site with everyone you know.

Regards,

K Wyer Lane
