Is there an update to your searching?
How is the finding going?

I’m researching a Black cowboy named John Ware. There are very few facts about his life before he came to Canada in 1882, but I am trying to verify his birthplace and a few other details. It is believed that he was a slave, born either in 1845 or 1850, either born or lived near Georgetown, South Carolina or Fort Worth, Texas. He was an outstanding cowboy, said to have acquired his skills in Texas. Sometime around 1881 he went on a cattle drive from Texas to Montana, and from there he came over to Canada. He never returned to the US after 1882. I am trying to learn everything I can about Ware plantations in those two states and any Black Wares in the areas.
