Fortune Richard/Florida/California/British Columbia
In Response To: Post #8 - CAAP ()
Richard, Fortune- born 1807 in Florida, USA
She died August 4, 1890 in Victoria, B.C. Daughter- Victoria Clanton nee Richard He lived on Fort Street, Victoria, B.C. 1863
Clarissa was buried August 7, 1890 by Rev. Rugg in Ross Bay Cemetery. F 13 E 20. Her tombstone reads “ Clarissa Richards Died August 4, 1890 aged 80 years. \ Also her sister Sophia Everton (her first husband was William Page) January 1907\aged 80 years\George Everton\January 20, 1907\78 years old.
Clarissa was living in 1860 in San Francisco District 8, San Francisco, California with her sister Sophia then Page and Sophia’s husband William and William Dean. My feeling is that Fortune had gone ahead to Vancouver Island…as the letter he co-wrote (see below) was in 1861. In the 1881 census, Clarissa and Fortune Richard were living together in Victoria. National Archives Film # C-13285 District 190 Sub District D Page # 6 Household Number 25. ****So they were not separated…However, I can not find a death certificate for Fortune. I tried Richard, Richards and just Fortune for the BC Vital Stats…So my feeling is that he did not die in BC. See the letter he co-wrote with Wellington D. Moses, Jacob Francis, William Brown and Richard H. Johnson dated November 1861…It was to James Douglas
