Re: Post #2 - CAAP

I realize that during the time period these pieces were written there wasn't a lot of information readily available, i.e., Census records. However, my grandfather was alive during the time Delilah Beasley wrote her book and it could have been easily established that his trip to Africa was taken when he was 32 and not 21 years of age. Also, my grandfather was alive when Sue Bailey Thurman wrote her book and was featured, along with his grandfather Alvin Aaron Coffey, in the San Francisco newspaper, The Sun Reporter.
In answer to your question regarding the names of the children, I am more than happy to provide the following:
William Coffey (1842 - 1844)
Mary J. (Coffey) Pindell (1844 - 1893)
John W. Coffey (1847 - 1917)
Lavinia Bassett (Coffey) Logan Snaden (1849 - 1922)
Alvin Aaron Coffey, Jr. (1851 - 1932)
Stephen Ware Coffey (1854 - 1931)
Charles Oliver Coffey (1858 - 1940)
Sarah Coffey (1860 - 1876)
Oro Fino (Coffey) Williams (1862 - 1937)
I have, in my possession a copy of Alvin A. Coffey's Emancipation Papers as well as other important documents.
If, I can be of any further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact me.
