My ggrandfather, Elias Simington, was in Leavenworth KS in 1880. Sometime between 1882 and 1884 he ended up in Butte MT along with his wife Babe Elizabeth Carter, 2 daughters and possibly a son. I have been looking at routes they might have taken, but would be interested to know more about our how, whens, and whys, of getting to the west. The routes I've come up with end up in OR or UT. How in the world did they get to Butte of all places?
