Might this group be what is called Black Hawaiians? In California I knew a family growing up named Lesertemay, I believe is how you spell it. They identified as Negro/Black but they were distinctly mixed with Asian. I never knew their background except what I heard that that the parents were from Hawaii and they were Black Hawaiians.
