Re: Nat Love Biography and History Quest

Just wanted to add that the "Deadwood Dick" title is one that has not been authenticated to one person. I mentioned art imitating life as the singing cowboys of Hollywood were adapted from actual trade practices of the cowboys. Well some authors believe that the "Deadwood Dick" title was an example of life imitating art as they assert that the name was borrowed from dime novels and assigned to certain western figures. Dick Bullock is probably the most challenging claimant to Nat Love's title as "Deadwood Dick"

Deadwood Dick
“…More than one man laid claim to the moniker, but "Deadwood Dick" was actually a fictional character who rode through the pages of 1800s paperbacks.
…Among those adopting the nickname at various times were a black cowboy, Nat Love; the actor Dick Brown; stagecoach drivers Richard Cole and Dick Bullock, and the man who maintained the epithet until his death in 1930, Richard Clark.”
