Thank you Richard, yes that is our Virginia, I had a typo on my original post, should have read 1897 for her date of death. Thanks for the thought about the acreage. I have had poor luck with following up on the local records, I understand that this is a problem other genealogists face in Bismarck as well. I had paid a lady from the local genealogy society to look up specific records at the courthouse with citations from the book (African Americans in North Dakota) and she said that the documents were missing according to the courthouse staff, which would not allow her to look in the basement where the archives are. So I suppose that following up on the land records will take more time. I will ask the local genealogy group if they know of any isolated graves in the location of the property Comers owned, that had not occurred to me. Hoping you had a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday!
