The comments by Booker T. Washington are very interesting in his usage of the word "WE". He speaks volumes of truth in his opinion of the U.S. and the expansionist ideas of the administrations at that time

"WE" sounds inclusive and it was about this time that Mr. Washington was seeking a compromise that might include Blacks in the American Dream. Although it was a segregated dream, paraphrased "separate like the fingers of our hand, but united when we make a fist".
