I think the black characters so far have been interesting but have been given very little dialogue to develop their persona. The focus is on the Europeans and Native Americans. The blacks are included because it is historically correct but not main characters in the plot. They are blending in with the landscape, sorry to say. The most important army scout on the northern plains was an African-Lakota Indian named Frank Grouard. He was there from the beginning of the Indian wars up to the Wounded Knee tragedy. It will be interesting to see if he is included since the focus is on the Lakota Indians. It is evident that they spent millions of dollars on this production, their website is very good. But again the inclusion of African Americans on the western frontier is minimal on the website.
