The Azores are often confused with the Cape Verde islands by many misinformed people like yourself. I just came back from a visit there and let me assure you that the islands are predominately white, in fact much whiter than much of the population in mainland Portugal as the Flemish and other nordic elements are clearly evident in many Azorean faces. Blue eyes and fair skin can found on every island while most of the remaining population is typically southern European in looks. The culture is thoroughly European. Cape Verde on the other hand, is a majority black/mullato nation with an African/Portuguese cultural mix. Geographically the Azores are in the same latitude as Lisbon while cape Verde is off the coast of Senegal in Africa. The very source you quoted by Robert Santos makes clear that the small black slave population was sent to Brazil and the Caribbean.
