Re: THE FAR-FAR WEST
In Response To: Re: THE FAR-FAR WEST ()
Possibly pertinent to this ongoing discussion of the movement of African Americans and others of African descent to Hawaii is a book which belonged to my late great-aunt. It is entitled, (the full title which is quite long) "Memorial of Twenty-Fifth Infantry, United States Army, Schofield Barracks, Honoolulu, Hawaii: An Historical Sketch of the Movements and Operations fo the Regiment since its Organization; Roster of its Present Officers, Field, Staff and Line;Non-Commissioned Staff; Band; Companies A,B,C,D,E,F,G,H,I,K,L, and M" This is dated 1915 in Honolulu. It was one of the Black Regiments during the Spanish American War. We are really not sure why she had the book because we can find none of our relatives in it. It may well be it was a boyfriend or other family friend who served in the 25th. It is unfortunate that Mr. Chaves, in his May 9 posting, saw the need to resort to name-calling. That is inappropriate and we should refrain from that on this list.
