The land that Richard Stanhope is reported to have settled on orignally was in Canaan Twp., Madison County, Ohio. Madison County was in an area that was a part of the Virginia Military District of Ohio, which was land granted to Rev. War veterans from Virginia. This land transaction may be recorded in some office in the the Madison County, Ohio courthouse located in London, Ohio.

You might also check with the Urbana, Ohio & the Lagonda Chapter's of the DAR who have done extensive research on Richard Stanhope and his connection to George Washington. These DAR Chapters have placed a marker at the burial site of Richard Stanhope in Johnson Cemetery, located in Concord Twp., in Champaign County, Ohio near property that was the final homestead of Richard Stanhope.
