Thanks for the fresh perspective Lee. It supports my point that it's about 150 years too late to determine with certainty the MOTIVES behind actions taken during this period.
Let me say that I respect the work of the researchers, all of whom I'm sure know more than I. It's just that, like investigative journalists, they sometimes seem to take too much relish in exploding "myths" of long-respected families like the Piatts. When in doubt, I tend to believe the myths created by people who were alive at the time rather than new myths created by bloggers.
