Say, I'm noticing that you're worried about a supposed pro-slavery stance. I'm working on a book about ALL of Ohio's UG RR folks, and I notice that if you were known to be sympathetic, your home might be invaded at any hour of the day or night. One poor man was kidnapped and left naked in a swamp for being against slavery, up near Cleveland. Others were beaten, US Marshals stomped into their cabins and fired off shotguns. Don't worry too much if your person wasn't openly anti-slavery. They might very well have been protecting their families--and the fugitives they were hiding. (The well-known Rankin family had to keep guns all over their home for any of their children to grab as needed, they were attacked so often.) Cheers now, Lee J. Messages In This Thread
