There was and is a lot of ignorance regarding slavery. I have had people question why African Americans were always talking about slavery. The people talking to me were not white, but young people of color, many African American. I am amazed that many young people do not even know why we celebrate the 4th of July, or what Juneteenth means. On the other side their are people who continue to push the belief that God wanted Africans to be slaves.

I recently watched a movie titled, Amazing Grace, which told the story of William Wilberforce. He spent many years fighting for the abolition of slavery, and had been a student of the man (I forget his name), who wrote the song, "Amazing Grace." They were both haunted by visions of slaves in chains. Wilberforce said that , "He did not go after the Mission, The Mission came after him."

Amazing Grace is a powerful movie, and gave me insight into why England finally declared slavery Illegal.
