Just asked because I've been to the area and have a sister that lives not far from there.

The same situation existed down in Douglas County where a young child of African descent was dropped off at the doctor's house.

There were plantations in Illinois and there were slaves brought from other states into Illinois to work on farms and in the mines.

If you are interested, I will be participating in a reenactment of the 1847 Slave Trial. We will be doing it again this summer.
