(Anita Wills) Interesting what you say about Christiana. Whites actually played no role, aside from helping the resisters, Parker and the others escape and they were not from Christiana, but the neighboring Underground Railroad. The two whites Hanway and Lewis who were there, who were not slavecatchers, were merely observers. There is a good account by William Parker, which was then edited by a magazine staffer in the Atlantic Monthly, Feb-Mar 1866, and you can view it online at the Cornell U website.
