Oh, and when did Montgomery and Tubman actually meet? I suspect very, very soon after he arrived in Beaufort in early 1863. When Higginson arrived in November 1862 (I think that is right), Tubman rushed to see him - so I suspect she did the same thing with Montgomery. I can narrow it down, but I need to pull out my mss notes and trace it.
