() Kate, The following was sent to me by Thurman Adams a few months ago. Have you ever heard of or talked with Mr. Adams? Please state your opinion on this short narrative about Harriet Tubman. Thanks, Bennie ------------------------------------- ARAMINTA ROSS aka HARRIETT TUBMAN By Thurman W. Adams The Ross side of my family, owned Araminta Ross, later known as HARRIET TUBMAN, the Moses of Her People. She was born at my 4th great-uncle's plantation in Bucktown, Maryland near the city of Cambridge, Maryland, on the Eastern side of the Chesapeake Bay, on the Delmarva Peninsula, about 20 miles West of Seaford, Delaware. She was born at the Ross Plantation, in Dorchester County, Maryland, sometime in the 1820s. She was given the name Araminta but later took her mother's name of Harriet. She was given the last name of our family, Ross, by my 4th great-uncle Robert. Harriet Ross married one John TUBMAN, a freed slave, in 1844. In 1849, Harriett TUBMAN escaped from the Maryland Ross Plantation and fled North to freedom. Harriett returned to the Ross Plantation in Dorchester County, Maryland in 1857 and led her parents to freedom to the State of New York. ------------------------------------ Additional narratives by Mr. Adams can be found at:
