Re: Ancestors of Harriet Tubman

Yes, I have met Sid Taylor a couple of times, and I was lucky enough to be able to speak to his lovely mother before she died. They are a good reminder that Tubman lived in a community filled with aunts and uncles, cousins and friends. Unfortunately, many of their identities and life stories have been lost, but through descendants like the Taylors, pieces of Tubman's broader familial and social comunity life can be rediscovered and imagined. Sid has been working diligently to raise funds for a statue of Harriet Tubman to be erected in Bristol. He also runs the African American Historical Society and Museum there. If anyone is interested in donating or help raise finds for this memorial, I think you can find him easily on the web.
