Re: The Old Slave House
In Response To: The Old Slave House ()
My Grandmother rented part of the house from someone named Sisk. Her name at the time was Jerema White. Her and my Grandfather Raymond White, told me many stories about the house when I was a young girl. Grandmother wouldn't stay in the house by herself at night. She could hear the slaves crying, among other things. I toured the house as a young girl with my Mother and some relatives from Southern Illinois. They had taken down the whipping posts, because someone had protested. I had no idea that there was so much interest in the house. I just thought MY OWN family had their own stories, until my Mother called me yesterday, and had been given the Book of Jon Musgraves. I just purchased a copy for my older brother's birthday. Boy will he ever be surprised! I just heard the house was closed to the public. I am saddened. I was planning to visit it again now that I'm an adult. I hope it openens again!
