Re: Is Cincinnati site closing?
In Response To: Is Cincinnati site closing? ()
Hello, A problem with the "Cincinnati site" as I see it is one of identity. Initially adveristed as the NATIONAL UGRR MUSEUM & FREEDOM CENTER it appears that the concept of world-wide suffering has overtaken the UGRR theme. And the scope of the UGRR from a NATIONAL perspective has become diminished. I have no quarrel with the direction which the Freedom Center choses to take, but the negativity associating the UGRR story with its portrayal as seen at the Freedom Center does distress me. The Freedom Center may not survive, but the UGRR story, like the Civil War, will continue to be researched, documented and perserved. IMHO one of the most inspiring aspects from the chattel slavery period, the tellling and interpetation of the UGRR story, may be slowed in this process. Art Thomas
