LEXINGTON, Ky. (Feb. 3, 2006) − Kentucky’s involvement in the famed underground railroad is only one of several featured topics as the University of Kentucky observes African-American History Month 2006.
With the theme “Celebrating Community,” several groups and departments at UK have scheduled activities during February.
An educational and social history photographic exhibit depicting women of the underground railroad, “Warriors in the Shadows: Women of the Underground Railroad,” will hold its grand opening from 4 to 6 p.m., Feb. 10, in the William T. Young Library Gallery. The research and compilation of the exhibit was conducted by Doris Wilkinson, UK sociology professor and exhibit curator.
“Warriors in the Shadows,” will be on display in Young Library February through March, celebrating African American Heritage Month and Women’s History Month. The exhibit is free and open to the public.
