Slavery in America PBS

What did you think of the the 1st part of the PBS documentary? What did you like, dislike?

I liked the early comparison of white and black indentured servants. I also liked the in-depth look at Thos. Jefferson and his childhood mate, Jupiter. One of the experts commented Jefferson was a lot like America itself -- idealistic but full of contradictions.

I also liked how the segment ended with an intro to radical change mongers -- Denmark Vesay, David Walker and the black woman, Mariah Stewart. Wasn't she a brave pistol?

What do you think of David Walker's pamphlet -- his appeal to rebellion and bloodshed if necessary? Isn't it interesting how he used words almost directly from America's founding documents in it?
