Underground Railroad Research Forum
Some Notes
In Response To: Underground Railroad - Checking In
() Some months ago, after a lot of digging in tax and deed records, we (Mary Liz and Paul Stewart) identified the house that corresponded to the address of 198 Lumber Street in Albany. This address was significant because it is the one listed on an Underground Railroad flier held by the Antiquarian Society near Boston. The flier identifies a location of a Vigilance Committee Office in Albany. Through the non-profit we have formed (Underground Railroad History Project of the Capital Region) to help with this local research the house has been purchased and we are working on restoring it to what it might have looked like in the mid 1850s. This is going to cost a good deal. We are also looking for volunteer help. We have worked to get it nominated to the state historic register. We are working to get it on the national register. All help is welcomed!
