[SEMINOLE INDIAN SCOUT CEMETERY-UGRR

Recently, the Seminole Indian Scout Cemetery Association, of Brackettville, applied for its cemetery SITE to be included in The National Park Service (NPS)-National Underground Railroad Network to Freedom. Congratulations! It meets all requirements as making a significant contribution to the understanding of the Underground Railroad in American history.

Mission Statement-National Underground Railroad Network to Freedom Program:
Recognizing that all human beings embrace the right to self-determination and freedom from oppression, the historical Underground Railroad sought to address the injustices of slavery and make freedom a reality in the United States.

The Certificate of Acceptance, presented to the Seminole Indian Scout Cemetery, was received on July 22, 2004. This is a great achievement for the cemetery SITE. The Seminole Indian Scout Cemetery Association would like to thank Shirley Mock, of The Institute of Texan Cultures-University of Texas San Antonio, for her great help in helping achieve the certificate.

You can view the NPS Network to Freedom website at www.cr.nps.gov/ugrr.

Thanks,
Clarence G. Ward
