The reason for my question is that most accounts on the movement of escaping slaves describes nighttime travel.
Would/could the quilts be hanging out at night and visible enough for their warnings/instructions to be read? Or would the quilts be used in the daylight hours to give instructions to UGRR Conductor/Operators in their efforts to aid in the movement of their "cargo"?
I know there isn't any one answer, but looking fo an explanation on the general usage of quilts.
