In 1852, aged thirty-three, Donn Piatt became a Cincinnati judge.
I was born in 1952 and went to the Piatt property at a very early age. I remember the story of Elizabeth helping slaves. I also remember being told of a white flag on a stick which could be seen at night. In my mind it should have been large enough to be seen from a distance.
When Elizabeth and Benjamin lived in Cincinnati, Elizabeth and her family joined the Catholic Church. After moving with her children to the cabin in Logan Co, Ohio, Elizabeth had a log chapel built some distance from the cabin. It was situated in a clearing in the woods. The log chapel was only used for service when the circuit priest visited from Toledo. Only the Piatts and their close friends attended the services. The log chapel was broken into at times and vandalized by locals. What were they looking for in an empty log chapel?
I am doing further research.
