Greetings!
I work for the National Park Service at Salem Maritime National Historic Site, Salem, MA and for the past 3 years we have been providing forums on the Underground Railroad in Essex Couty.
We plan on publishing a brochure and include information on our park web-site. We used the book "The Underground Railroad in Massachusetts - Illustrated" written by Wilbur Siebert as a starting point to identify local areas involved in some way with harboring Freedom seekers or abolitionist activity.
Frederick Douglass lived in Lynn, MA for a short time. Harriet Beecher Stowe lived in Andover, MA and a variety of people have been identified as conductors along routes leading from the South up to New Hampshire and Canada.
I welcome any comments from other interested parties concerning our project.
