In Response To: Presenting Family Tree on Internet? ()
I view many online family trees, and they are so wonderful. I used to wonder why mine didn't look like that. Well, I still go through the envy thing, but at the end of my self-pity party, I always decide to stick with my creation.
Maybe because it's just that: my creation. It is not flashy, it does not have frames, it does not have a flash slide show, or any of the other features I see on other sites.
I am saying to those of you who haven't experimented yet, take the plunge! There are several hosts on the Internet that will allow you to create a family tree. Many have templates that range from easy to non-comprehending.
I do HTML programming, even though I started out with a template. I am constantly revising my site and working on learning how to improve it. This gives me satisfaction, something I could not achieve by using templates.
That is not to say that templates shouldn't be used as a starting point. From using them, I increased my programming skills in HTML. Heck, if anyone does not like your site, let them program it for you!
Just my humble opinion.
