Let me add this to the mix. Preserve your original photos as best as you can. Consider wearing gloves when handling them. I don't recommend writing on photos at all. If you must, use a pencil and for the Ancestors's sake, do not write on the front!!! You would be surprised (shocked) at the number of photos I've been asked to restore with pen marks across great gran's busom... I would suggest that you scan your originals and create a CD/DVD archive. Make copies of your discs and distribute among family. Should anything happen to the originals and first copy, there will be another copy at a different location. I like the idea of plastic sleeve. If you use the photo-safe acid free type you should have no problems. The adhesive label on the sleeve should pose no problems. Blowing up the pic to 8/10; brilliant!
