Re: Newspaper Research

You might also want to take a look at Paper of Record (paperofrecord.com). It's free (yea!! ... didn't used to be free) and they have dozens of papers with a pretty good search engine. Based in Canada, most of their papers are Canadian, but they have dozens of US papers that Ancestry (which is actually the database from newspaperarchive.com) doesn't have, including the phenomenal Afro American newspaper, which was based in Baltimore (1902-1978) but included an incredible amount of genealogical information for blacks in Philadelphia, D.C., New York, New Jersey, Baltimore, Richmond, VA, and more.
Other than the Afro American, Paper of Record's US papers collection is pretty sparse, but if you have Canadian ancestors (like me ... sorry), then this website is a godsend. They also have one paper from the Bahamas and dozens from Mexico, both places where there were lots of blacks folks, due to the slave trade or the Underground Railroad.
At any rate, take a look, sign-up (did I mention that it's FREE, FREE, FREE?) ... they're going to be adding more newspapers to their database and you never know what you can find unless you look.
Best to you.
