Re: How do you stay in contact online?

EVOLUTION IN GENEALOGY...not yet widespread
There is an evolution in digital genealogy that finally provides an optimum solution. The first question is what should a digital/online genealogy product do for you?
It should include:
-a way to collaborate between family members online
phpGEDView IS ONE OF THE FIRST PRODUCTS IN THIS EVOLUTION
This new software is called phpGedView and it not only provides all of the features of every PC family tree software, it is free based on the the Open Software Policy/Foundation.
(Open Software Policy dictates that software doesn't have to cost you anything to use; there is a certain bias in our economy that if you don't pay for something you don't think it can be as much value as something you pay for; Open Software is a proven concept against this bias)
phpGedView has advanced features not available on PC products.
-You can access it over the world wide web.
-It provides logins for family members.
-It is based on the Content Management System, which means that you don't have to know HTML or have any web skills to manage the product. You login, click the edit button and edit the page just like you would in any wordprocessor.
-It also has advance mathematical features (called Research Assistant) that employ Bayesian mathematical techniques to show you likely places to search and you don't have to know anything about math to use it (all you have to know is that Bayesian mathematics is used to find things like lost submarines and a number of other things).
-You can still use your PC by using GEDCOM files; however, the product is so good that I only use my PC when I don't have internet access.
Finally, the thing that is lacking in genealogy and digital genealogy is it exists today is, that while it has found it's way on the world wide web, the next level should be to make traditional computer techniques (like correlating data) work.
What do I mean by this?
One ill-side effect of the information age is that it has resulted in information explosion...too much information being channeled back to a user. We need better correlation to reduce the amount of information returned and to have that information with a high degree of likelihood that it is indeed what you are looking for.
phpGedView is the next evolution for digital genealogy...collaboration with family members is one of it's core assets.
