Re: Genealogy Research the Wikipedia Way
In Response To: Genealogy Research the Wikipedia Way ()
I've signed up to give this service a try. Too soon to know what I think of the service at this point. Mainly, I privatized one of my smaller FTM family files and uploaded the gedcom. The file has about 300 persons and is a work in progress. I have not tried to do much more than that beyond trying to learn to navigate thru the family tree explorer. Since this service is still in beta there probably aren't many researchers out there to connect with. Anyone can do a search for a name but in order to explore a family tree you need to login. The service does require space on your disk drive to work. I haven't tried to make any changes as yet but I may do that later today, just to see how it works. Compared to FTM, navigation is a little awkward to me. On FTM, you goto the Outline Descendant View and double-click on any name to go to thheir page or goto the index and double-click. On webrelate there is no way to expand to see the entire tree. I'm not optimistic about the success of this service. The competition for webrelate may not have the graphics but they are well established and I think that takes a long time.
