- RootsMagic at the BYU Family History Conference in August
We will be exhibiting at the BYU Family History Conference Aug 1-4 in Provo,
Utah. In addition, we will also be presenting 3 workshops at the conference,
one on RootsMagic, one on Personal Historian, and one on an exciting new
product we will be releasing in the next few months (is that a teaser or
what?).
If you will be attending the conference, or if you are just in the area, stop
by for our free workshops (Tues, Wed, and Thur from 5:15 to 6:15 pm) or just
drop by and say hi.

- Tip of the Month
In last month's tip we discussed how to create "user defined" fact types to
indicate that a person was "never married" or had "no children". In that tip,
we mentioned that you "can search for that fact type as well". Several
RootsMagic users wanted us to go into a little more detail about that.
Most RootsMagic users are familiar with the basic search capabilities in the
program (doing "Search > Person list" from the menu and then typing the
person's name). And many users are familiar with the "Find" button on that
search screen which lets you find people based on the data you have entered
for them.
But often it is quicker and easier to use one of RootsMagic's built-in reports
to find the information you are looking for.
For example, to create a list of everyone who has a "never married" fact, do
"Reports > Lists" from the menu (or click the "Reports" button on the toolbar
and click the little plus sign + in front of Lists in the report dialog. Then
select the list called "Fact list".
With this report you can choose to print everyone with a particular fact type.
If you have added a custom fact type called "never married" like we discussed
last month, you may choose that fact from the list, then click the "Create"
button and you will have a list of everyone in your database that you have
added the "never married" fact to.
Of course, this isn't just limited to the "never married" fact type. It can
be used with any fact type you add to a person or family, whether it is a
built in or user defined fact type.
