In Response To: Re: Mac Laptop and Reunion Software? ()
After downloading it, the first thing I noticed was the very unfriendly look and feel of the program. The drop-down menus don't make a whole lot of sense (how come I can't find IMPORT or EXPORT anywhere?), and when I did try to open up my primary GEDCOM file (freshly exported from Reunion), I got two error messages that the file couldn't be imported, then Genealogy Pro started "preparing file for import," (or something like that) which went on for about 25 minutes (beach ball spinning the entire time) before I did a force quit.
I went through the five minute tutorial and some of the screens actually looked okay, but without actually being able to try this out, I cannot say anything good about this program.
The fact that it had trouble with my GEDCOM file (Macintosh format export, Macintosh format import), and that it will not open other file formats makes me think that I'd have to recreate my file from scratch. Yeah, like that's gonna happen.
HOWEVER, it is nice to see that someone else is thinking about we Mac users and hopefully, if Leister Products gets some competition, they'll be forced to improve Reunion. But Genealogy Pro is no competition, as far as I'm concerned, and I'll just have to tough it out with Reunion.
If only someone could take a program like Roots Magic and port it to the Mac. ... sigh.
