Microsoft has an advisory tool that you can run from their website that will evaluate what your computer needs to have in order to upgrade to Vista. Usually the first 6 months to a year are problematic for major new versions of windows. I'd be inclined to wait and consider buying a new computer since the cost of upgrading can sometimes be more expensive than buying new. It's my understanding that Vista uses more graphical capabilities so there may be other elements that would need to be upgraded.
