Re: Zipping a .pdf File...Help, please.....

I don't think you'll get anywhere near the compression you
want from this utility. Here it goes anyway :

For QuickZip you first need to create the zip archive and then
create the .exe self-extracting zip.

1. Start QuickZip.

2. Click on the "New" icon and the "Open" dialog opens.

3. In the "Open" dialog, browse to the directory where you want to
create your zip archive.

4. Again, in the "Open" dialog, make sure the "Files of type" field
is "Zip archive".

4. Still in the "Open" dialog "File name:" field, give your zip
archive a name.

For my example, I used : tx-walker-cemeteries

and click the "Open" button.

5. The "Open" dialog closes and the "Add to.." dialog opens.

6. On the leftside of the "Add to.." dialog, use the plus (+) icon to
navigate to the base directory where your FTM pdf file(s) are.

In my case it's C:\user\Genealogy\jeanine .

7. Again, on the "Add to.." dialog, click on the "Add Options" tab.

I did not want any of the path information from my system so...

8. Uncheck "Save Folder info" box.
9. Uncheck the "Add Sub-directory" box.
10. Check the "Relative path" box.
11. Click on the "File Selection" tab.
12. Using the folder pulldown, browse to the folder where your pdf files are.
In my case it's C:\user\Genealogy\jeanine\
13. Click on the "Mark Current Path as Base Dir".

14. On the rightside of the "Add to.." dialog hilight the
pdf file you want to compress.

In my case it's tx-walker-cemeteries.pdf

15. Click the "Add" button.
16. A filelist appears with the selected file(s).
17. Again, hilight the file(s) you want to compress in the filelist.
18. Again click the "Add" button.
19. Your new zip archive should be in the leftside panel.

Now you need to create a self-extracting .exe version.

20. Hilight the zip archive in the left panel.
21. Click on the "Action">"More Functions">"Create Sfx".
22. The "Sfx Creation Dialog" opens.
23. In the "Default Extract to folder" field put a single period
to indicate the extract to the current directory.
24. Click on the "Close" button and you're done.
