Hathi Trust Digital Library

Perhaps this is old news to some on the list, but I just found it today.
Hathi Trust

quoting the website: "Hathi Trust is a partnership of major research institutions and libraries working to ensure that the cultural record is preserved and accessible long into the future. There are more than sixty partners in HathiTrust, and membership is open to institutions worldwide."

The big deal for us is that it is freely accessible and contains thousands of digitized books, many not available elsewhere. This site is better than my previous favorite, Google Books, because it allows full-text access to some books for which Google Books only allows a snippet view.

Two examples:
I found a reference I wanted to read in a 1907 magazine, Voice of the Negro, but Google Books would only let me see a few words in "snippet" view. I was planning to drive through the tunnel to Hampton to read a paper copy at Hampton U. library, when by chance I came across this website, and it gave me full access to the entire publication. Each page even said "image scanned by Google" at the bottom -- but while Google wouldn't let me see the pages, Hathi gave me the whole book!

Then I looked for a genealogy family history published in 1909 that Google Books would not let me see -- and lo and behold, that book also was fully accessible on the Hathi Trust website!

So, if if the book is out of copyright (and therefore in the public domain) but Google Books won't let you look at the full text, check Hathi Trust and you may find the book there.
