HQ digitized the Black newspaper, The New Journal and Guide from 1921 to 2003. It was published in Norfolk VA, but carries Obits, social news and happening for local National, Mid Atlantic seaboard states. It has been a great resource for me. The J&G help clear up a few brickwalls for me. I even found a vacation Bible school graduation picture of me at 5 years old, in 1955.

I first used my Library of VA card to access the J&G,(confusing), then the Norfolk VA library purchased a subscription a few months ago.

If you have HQ Newspapers access, it's well worth it. HQ's 1930 census transcriptions are incomplete.
