AfriGeneas Genealogy Technology Forum
Okay, how can Apple TV help me with genealogy? That's a good question. Well, the reason I came up with is, the ability to listen to podcast; and this where some of the riches content about genealogy lives. Apple TV allows you to watch Youtube where genealogy is showing up. Finally, if you have pictures, or specific sets of pictures on Flickr dealing with genealogy you can show them on the "big screen."
I know, I know, I sound like an Apple pitch man. I just love Apple; or should say the Apple did a number on me when I was in school. They made sure me and my fellow classmates used their product.
I was at MacWorld this past Thursday and Friday (without Apple) and I found one app that might make taking notes a bit easier. There is an app (yeah, this one is free) called Dragon. It is a dictating app that removes the hands from the keyboard. I think this is very helpful because of the smallness of the keyboard on Iphone and Ipod Touch. The app does work on both devices (4th generation) and iPad. I recently dictated an email to my cousin.
I had to tell it when to punctuate and when to begin a new paragraph. You also have to manually put in the e-mail address but that's no sweat. You can also send it to Twitter, Facebook and there are a couple other choices. You can dictate with the earphones/mic that came with iPhone, Ipod Touch or iPad. As long as it has a mic; there is a little bump near one of the ear pieces that allows for control of volume that doubles as a mic.
Again this software is free on Itunes. There is a version for desktops as well as for laptops but that is $129.00; at least that is what was on the floor.
There were many other gadgets but I thought were incredible but I just decided to type about one. I downloaded this prior to my visit to MacWorld. I never used it until I saw the demo at the show.
Remember the Itunes version for iPhone, iPod Touch (both 4th generation) and Ipad using 4.0 software is free.
