I'm thinking that these are not either or services at this point in time. US Census research is so important for most researchers and at this point in time I think that the ability to search the entire US Census at ancestry.com is unrivaled. Footnote.com has the most amazing documents but you really can't do the majority of your research there. At footnote.com, I've had great finds in the Cherokee Applications, the Dawes Applications for the Mississippi Choctaw and I'm waiting for more of the Civil War Applications to go online. I'd like to say that I'll have one of each please but I I could only have one it would have to be ancestry.com.
