Organizing my Research - Help!!

I had a number of questions related to organizing my genealogy research. Oh, yes, I've read books, photocopied chapters and searched the internet. I'm still disorganized.

I have information on 5" x 7" cards and 4" x 6" cards...lots of duplicates. I have things filed in notebooks (3 hole punched) and things in files (one letter sized file box and one legal sized file box.)

I wanted to find a way to number my miscellaneous ancestors to keep them organized, and I have multiple copies of documents, some in a document file and some with the ancestor they are related to. And of course there are Family Group Sheets and a few pedigree charts.

It may be fate, or providence, or just a good swift kick in the pants...that the first posting when I found this forum offered FREE Macintosh software. Maybe it's time to get technical. Will a software program solve my card organizing problem? and my numbering problem? Nothing will solve my document problem, but if there is a way to scan them into the program to save the, that would help a lot!! I also need lots of spaces for notes because a lot of the information you find on-line needs documentation and/or explanations.

So, should I be looking for software, and move into the 21st century or buy another book on "Organizing"????? And what would be a good -- inexpensive (I can organize now because I'm not working - an entirely different problem to be solved) Mac friendly software program???

Thanks, Judith
