Trying to follow your dilemma... I also used Family Origins (FO) until Roots Magic(RM) came out. The author of FO is also the owner and author of RM.

Good News.....RM version 4 will import GEDCOM files from FO version 4 & later. Bad News is you may have to purchase RM version 4.... Good News.... you should be able to get RM version 4 as an update to your FO for less than 20.00 + shipping & handling.

Go to www.rootsmagic.com and check out their policy of updating from FO, you may be pleasantly surprised. At the very least you can go to their HELP area, explain the problem and I'd bet someone has a solution for you.
