Re: Genealogy CD's
In Response To: Re: Genealogy CD's ()
Well..I WAS using Family Origins 6...but I received it as a gift in 1997.. it was found on a clearance rack and since I was starting out...I didn't know any difference. I finally got use to using it and was able to use it to create 2 family reunions books. During the time period I was using it, I saw the Family tree maker CD, one on clearance and decided..'if it ain't broke don't fix it'. In the meantime Family Origins 6 was bought out by Roots Magic. I didn't know nor did I care cause I WAS HAPPY. I realize all of you want to help me save all of this updated information I have accrued over the years including..rescueded pictures from 'folks' but right now my daughter is looking into what is available for me to save from my computer. Also I am from the old school of training. Periodically I would print the entire ancestry pool, of whatever I found IF it was a large amount, for surnames I was researching so I could read it whenever I chose and not be chained to electricity and and a computer. That has helped tremendously, because I know what I have in writing. This is something I would strongly encourage everyone to do periodically. I also have my legal paper pad's that I also save. You just never know what you may remember to look at again. I don't recognize what Database, gedcoms and other technical information means. I have kind of swithched to adding information to the ancestry site, I just became a member of for 3 month's, But I don't know if I can download(a new word I now really understand) to paper . I hate being a 'slave' to machines and memberships because you got to do what they want you to do, their way, and it ain't free. Libraries and books are. If you have any hints feel free to voice them. I will be happy to use it.
